Mexico City – In 2013, the thirty-two Mexican states scored an average of 5,037 points [of a total of 10,000 points] on the Index of Democratic Development (IDD), according to a report prepared by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Polilat consulting firm and the Management Confederation of the Mexican Republic (COPARMEX). The 2013 average score represents a 9.4% drop over the 2012 average score of 5,560 points.After the study’s authors evaluated such factors as respect for civil liberties, institutional efficiency and public security, the state scoring highest was Yucatán and the state scoring lowest was Tamaulipas.

Mexico’s thirty-two states, ranked by level of democratic development, are listed below:
