The Costa Maya & Chetumal

If you are looking to invest in the Caribbean, but have found that the prices around Cancun and the Riviera Maya have gotten way out your price range, you may want to take a look a little father south on the Mexican coast to an area called the Costa Maya (the Mayan Coast).

The Costa Maya is a small Caribbean region in the State of Quintana Roo, Mexico, located four hours south of Cancún, and just an hour north of the Belizean border. The area has grown quickly yet stayed charming after the construction of a largepier in 2001 to accommodate cruise ships docking from all over the world.

The main town on the Costa Maya is Majahual (maha-wall). This little town has white powder sand beaches, turquoise blue water, grass thatched roof villas, and a coral reef just off-shore, as well as several bars, restaurants and shops.

You might wonder: “Won’t I get bored living on the Costa Maya?” “What else is there to do after I have relaxed on a hammock tied between two coconut palms, sun bathed on a tropical white sand beach, scuba dived the Chinchorro Reef, snorkeled right off my beach front property and caught lobsters for dinner, enjoyed a dip in the warm Caribbean water, fished in the lagoons behind my property, fly fished right off my own beach front, visited the Sian Kaan Biosphere Reserve, toured the mangroves with a local fisherman, bird watched the hundreds of tropical species, seen Howler monkeys and other fauna, strolled down the Majahual boardwalk, taken a walk down a deserted beach with my sweetheart, mingled with the locals and fellow ex-patriats and had a few Margaritas with chips, spicy salsa and buttery guacamole?” Well, if you think you still might be bored after all those acitivities, then we suggest that you visit the Capital City of Chetumal, which is only a little over an hour drive from the Costa Maya.

In Chetumal you will find large supermarkets, Sam’s Club, banks, an array of great restaurants and even fast food places, if you just want a meal on the run. There are very nice air-conditioned malls, modern cinemas with the latests Hollywood movies which play in Enlgish, museums, cultural centers, nightclubs, and quaint hotels facing the Bay of Chetumal. Now if you are into Las Vegas style gambling, you can drive just 10 minutes from Chetumal and enjoy the casinos with slot machines and tables games. They have Black Jack tables, Roulette, Texas No-limit Hold’em and my favorite game, 3 card poker.

Take a look below at the pictures of Majahual, Chetumal and our featured property listing and then email me with any questions you may have. I hope to hear from you and see you soon on the Costa Maya.
