A Day in the Life at Sunset Beach

Posted on May 11, 2011 by Yury Diana Di Pasquale in Beach Life, Touring Yucatan

I cannot complain. Life is good. We are so fortunate to have good friends, and even more fortunate to have ones that own a home on the beach, Sunset Beach that is. A couple of weeks ago we were able to spend our first night ever on Sunset Beach with our friends Vincent and Jewel (Vicente and Joya) who graciously invited us to stay with them during their visit to the area. They bought on Sunset Beach several years back and built their home just a few paces from the Emerald Coast in Mexico . They have a beautiful oceanfront home with two guest rooms for cozy visits from people like us.

We drove from Cancun to Sunset Beach and spent the night at their Casa having tropical frozen drinks, playing cards and enjoying some steaks on the barbeque. What a feast!

We then relaxed outside on the terrace viewing a huge thunderstorm that was out at sea with the lightning lighting up the dark sky. We retired to our guest room and enjoyed a peaceful night’s sleep listening to the crickets and the gentle waves lapping on the shoreline below.

In the morning we woke up to what else but sunshine. As soon as I got out of bed, I hopped over to the sliding glass door and opened up the curtains to see the calm sea with pelicans soaring right above the water. It was breathtaking to see the color of the water and the pelicans gliding just inches from the waves and then diving in to catch the morning meal. There is nothing quite like the sight of the ocean when you open your eyes in the morning. I told Guy, “I can get accustomed to this.”

Vicente prepared a good hearty breakfast for all of us, which he served poolside facing the gorgeous clear shores of the Gulf of Mexico . It was a weekend to remember, with good friends, good food and a great view. Maybe I can be their caretaker during their absence? J

We are moving to Merida next month after 9 years of living in Cancun, and we are so looking forward to building on our oceanfront lot on Sunset Beach . Staying at “Casa Vicente and Joya” was just the motivation we needed to start planning our own home on Sunset Beach . I cannot wait! We look forward to seeing you too on the Merida Coast .

Sunset Beach Infrastructure Update: There will be new road construction beginning next year that will go from Merida to Sisal, bypassing all of the quaint towns of Hunucma, Ucu, and Caucel with their many charming speed bumps (topes). This will cut the driving time down to only 25 minutes from Sisal to Merida .
